Beware Late Payments
CATEGORY: PAYROLL UPDATE | POSTED: 21 Jul 2010

As from April 2010 any employer or contractor not paying their PAYE liability on time and in full may have to pay a penalty.

Penalties will apply to any late payments due from month 1 of the 2010-11 tax year, ie. from 19th May 2010, but will not be charged until April 2011. Warning notices sent out routinely when the Revenue did not receive payment will no longer be despatched but a penalty could still be charged.

The new penalty regime is to prevent employers not paying on time from gaining a financial benefit or using Government money to fund their business and hence obtain an advantage over other companies.

Electronic payments must reach HMRC’s bank account by 22nd of the following month or by the 19th if other payment methods are used.

The simple message from the Revenue is that paying on time and in full will prevent any penalties being incurred!
